Did you know that aromatherapy has been practiced for many years, to such an extent that it has now become a therapeutic treatment? This therapy consists of perceiving smells, which help to stimulate the senses and to relax the body and muscles with the help of massages.
This practice may sound a little complex and difficult to perform, but what would happen if I told you that you can do it anywhere, even at home? Practicing aromatherapy a few minutes a day can bring benefits to your life, and even every scent and essential oil has its own benefit
But you might wonder how does aromatherapy work through smells? What do you need to do this practice?
Don’t worry today I will teach you some easy tricks and I will recommend several basic essential oils, which you can use to start practicing aromatherapy.
To start practicing aromatherapy, the first thing you should get are essential oils, remember that essential oil is not the same as fragrances. (I particularly like the Doterra and Now brands due to their percentage purity, which can also be found online at IHerb.com or Amazon)
By inhalation: it is the basic method in aromatherapy. It can be direct or not. Aromatic diffusers are used, if you do not have one you can use a pot with hot water and put 15 drops of essential oil, and you will have the same benefits. This alternative is for problems in the respiratory tract and for some conditions in the skin.
Aromatic baths: this method is ideal to relax the body and eliminate stress. If you have a bathtub you can fill it with hot water and put 25 to 30 drops of essential oil. Remember that a bath with hot water is ideal for circulation and relaxation. If you do not have a bathtub in your house, do not worry, you can mix everything in a pot and at the end seal your shower with this bath.
By massage: For this step I recommend mixing the essential oil with an organic coconut oil. Having direct contact with pure essential oils can cause a type of allergy or irritation. Perform the massage energetically or softly, depending on the ailment. This method is ideal for contractures
To improve sleep: A very useful advice is that if you feel stressed, and you want to relax, you can take a spray bottle, fill half with water and then add 15 drops of essential oil, I use lavender essential oil, it helps me relax and recover my energy, I spray it on my bed and pillow before going to sleep. This procedure helps you to start the next day full of energy and vitality.
For tired feet: Our feet sometimes feel very sore and tired at the end of a long day. Relieve them adding a few drops of peppermint oil in a foot bath with Epsom salt, this will bring back life to your feet.
Many benefits that you did not know existed:
- Multipurpose cleaner: citrus oils are mainly used for their disinfectant properties.
- Natural insect repellent: for example you can apply eucalyptus essential oil in the form of a spray.
- Control pests: use orange or clove essential oil.
- Purify the air: use a vaporizer of essential oils to enjoy its anti-microbial properties of some oils.
- Treat acne: through the topical application of tea tree oil.
- Hair health: you can mix a few drops of lavender oil in your shampoo to improve the health of your hair.
Oils recommended for antibacterial and antiviral use: Thyme Oil, Oregano Oil, Rosemary Oil, Salvia Oil, Tea Tree Oil and Manuka Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Lemon Oil, Melissa Oil.
Oils recommended to fight Anxiety: Pine Oil, Lavender Oil, Orange Oil, Geranium Oil, Cinnamon Oil.
My favorite and a must in my handbag: Frankincense oil. “The King of Oils” because it promotes health in all senses, both physical and emotional. It is an incredibly therapeutic oil for all the systems of your body. The oldest of all time. It has anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antibacterial and immune-stimulating effects, which makes it ideal to support the respiratory and immune system. It helps with meditation, it is tonic and sedative for the nerves, so it could help in cases of anxiety or stress. For its antiseptic and healing properties, it is ideal to help with skin treatments, I like to put it in my lotions, because it is recommended for spots, scars, stretch marks and wrinkles.
If you’ve never tried them I suggest you start with Lavender, once you connect you will not regret it. =)
